If you have a socially connected volunteer team, who might not always be in the same place, twitter offers another tool for effective group organizing. You can set up a new, private twitter account strictly for your volunteers. Have them follow this account, but deny any strangers who might try to follow. Then ask each volunteer to set the "Turn on mobile notifications" for this account. Now you have an instant private messaging system to announce real-time events and news to your select group of on-the-ground volunteers. Need a flash-crowd? Need to keep them all informed of breaking news? This does it.

Thanks for stopping by Adam - I often use Poppy's in my presentations of how to use social media well. Rob not only "gets" customer service - he lives, eats and breaths it - it's just who he is. And it carries over into his social media efforts. Small business owners can leran a lot by following his example.

Great interview you guys. It was great seeing both of you! I always tell people that if you want to see a business owner in Estes Park who's doing Social Media right, then you have to look no further than Rob Pieper. Your Pizza and beer is the best in town too!

Also, sound advice on the time restraints and focus needed to be active in Social Media while running a business. Like you said Rob, it's all about consistency.

Your blog has been bookmarked Jeff, and I'll be returning regularly.

Thanks Nancy. I find that a lot of people and brands are in the same spot. They know they need to be in the social media space, but aren't sure what they want to accomplish or how to do it. Hope the post helps get them jump started.

Thanks for info about the conversion to timeline! Very helpful! We have converted over to the timeline but I have been stumbling around trying to figure out all the new features! I personally like the new timeline format and look forward to navigating it better!
